Dear friends and colleagues,
today the Plovdiv European Capital of Culture 2019 has undergone another challenge.
As you know in an attempt to be instrumentalised and used in a political context, the project Balkan Pride has been a subject of attacks by nationalist parties in the city council – an unacceptable invasion on the territory of the free creative choice. On such a platform the language of art stays powerless. The project was defended by the Mayor of Plovdiv Mr Ivan Totev – Chairman of the Board of the Directors of the Foundation.
According to the decision of the Municipal Council, Svetlana Kuyumdjeva remains as the Artistic Director of “Plovdiv 2019” and her resignation will not be discussed on a meeting of the board of the Directors.
We are not sure the attacks will stop here, but we are on our positions and we continue our work.
